How can I tell if I need a new roof?

Not sure whether that recent storm left you with more than just limbs laying in your yard?

Here’s a simple checklist of what a homeowner should look for.

If you see any of these from the ground:

  • Missing shingles, Curling or cracked shingles

  • Loss of granules - check gutters, decks or patios for a small sand-like pebbles (granules from shingles).

  • Sagging or dips in the roof — this needs attention immediately.

  • Dark streaks or green moss growth — this could be a sign of moisture problems.

If you see either of these in your attic:

  • Light showing through boards — this means the roof decking is damaged.

  • Water stains, mold, or rot in the attic — this indicates that leaks have been going on for a while and there is probably more hidden damage.

What do you need to check after a storm?

If the storm included high winds or hail immediately look for damage.  Missing or dented shingles, accumulation of sand-like pebbles on your concrete or in the gutters, loose or damaged flashing around chimneys, vents and the valleys of your roof.

Call National Roofing if you see any of these signs of damage.  We will provide you a FREE no-obligation inspection.
